How to Spend this Summer in Melbourne!

Australia is known for it’s amazing summer, extreme heat and perfect weather. As most of us living in Australia are on holidays for at least part of the summer, that leaves plenty of time to explore and have enjoy this country! With such a long break for students, what exactly can you do during summer? Whether you are in the country experiencing real Australian outback culture and checking out the beautiful landscape of Australia, or relaxing in a city or suburb with some mates, Australia has a lot to offer.
There are more simple options to choose from when in Australia during summer, some of these simple options can be the best however. One example is heading down to the beach and enjoying the refreshing touch of the cool water and getting a tan with some mates on the sand. Another can be simply walking around cities shopping or going to that café you always wanted to but never had time; you have nothing but time now!
Melbourne in particular offers many options to keep you busy during the summer months. One important event that runs at the beginning of every year is the Australian Open. The Australian Open is a tennis Grand Slam where players and fans from around the world travel to the doorstep of Melbourne to compete. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day of the event, so if you want to get involved it’s never too late.
On the topic of sports, why not also watch some cricket games? If long test cricket isn’t your thing try out a Big Bash game? Quick games, awesome displays and players trying their best to smack the ball out of the stadium!
Melbourne also offer bicycles available to rent. This works off a paid system where you pay to rent a bike for as long as you want! This system can get you to the Australian Open or the cricket or it could get you around the city and inner suburbs on an awesome adventure to see what’s around. You can plan out a route on a map and travel around Melbourne seeing landmarks and checking out some of the famous restaurants and cafés.
Make sure that you check out St. Kilda to enjoy the beach culture (what's a trip to Australia in summer without enjoying the beach?) and pop into Lunar Park where you can ride some roller coasters or even win a huge plush toy for your friend! It’s free to walk in and you can purchase single ride tickets or whole day passes. St Kilda Twilight Market is also open every Thursday of summer until February 25, with vendors selling food, clothing, jewellery, artwork and more, so this is not to be missed!
After a full day of activities or a relaxed day checking out any number of the wonderful cafes, Melbourne’s night culture is where the city really shines. There are hundreds of popular, world renowned restaurants where you can sit down to an unforgettable meal. If you want to get in more with the true Melburnians, why not get down to a local pub and enjoy a local band and a nice steak or parmigiana? Some of the pubs located in the CBD are on rooftops giving you gorgeous views of the city that you will never forget. For a night of true Melbourne culture, clear your schedule on 20 Feb 2016 for the city's annual White Night. See the city light up with projections, interactive displays, performances and, of course, delicious food!
Melbourne both in the day and at night offers plenty for everyone with different tastes and preferences. So if you spend a holiday in Melbourne or anywhere in Australia and fall in love with its beauty, why not think about moving here?
